Brookfield, MA - May 2022

Image
Our travels brought us to a little town in MA called Brookfield, West Brookfield actually ;) We are on our way back from Maine to the finger lakes region of NY, and needed a halfway stopping point.  I used campendium "shout out", and found this cute little old school Highview campground about half way along our path. Brookfield is located in central MA with a population when including North, East and West, of about 10 - 12 K.   We arrived to Brookfield about 4 pm, after a 300 mile trip pulling our home behind us.  The town was quaint, pretty with that old New England charm.   Being Memorial day, there were flags all over the town and the center town area was just lovely.  Old style New England homes, large and well maintained with handsome landscaping as far as my eye could see.   Through Brookfield we went into West Brookfield. Up, up and up some more we pulled our fifth wheel to an elevation of about 1000 feet.  Past 3 different ...

The Fog - a short story

My name is Alex, I am 14 years old.  My family and I have been taking vacations for as long as I can remember, about 10 years.  We spend most of our summers on the go.  We have traveled to many places and stayed at many campgrounds.  I love them all.  Something about traveling is just so exciting, like an unending adventure.  Last year, my dad informed me on the last day of school, that we were going to Maine in a couple weeks.  I was thrilled.  Maine is after all known not only for its cool shorelines and lobsters, but for mist, fog and big foot AKA, sasquach.    I started immediately to plan for things I could do while in Maine.  "Dad" I yelled.  "What is it Alex" dad replied.   "Where in Maine are we going?" I asked.  "I have my eye on a campground up on the north end of Mount Dessert Island", dad replied.  "Whats the name?" I asked.  "I think its called Hadley's point..." dad replied.  Tha...

Hadley's Point Campground, Mount Desert Island (MDI), Maine - May 2022

Image
We stayed for fifteen days at this lovely campground,  Hadley's Point Campground , way up here in the northeast corner of our United States of America.  First of all, this place rivals Alaska for its natural beauty.  Its the only other place I have been that elicit ohs and ahs at seemingly ever turn.   The coastline in Maine is well known for its rugged, rocky beautiful shores as well as its lighthouses that assist night time mariners.  I cant imagine being a mariner back in the day before good maps and lots of lighthouses.  The shorelines are so jagged with so many coves and islands surrounding the main island and the coast in general.  There must be hundreds of ships that hit ground and sank in and around the Maine coastline.  Jordan Pond, MDI   MDI, Mount Desert Island is located about half way up the coast of Maine.  At every turn are coves and winding, twisting shorelines.  There are fresh water lakes and ponds, big ponds and ...
