Boondockers Welcome-Ontario, NY 10/25-28/2021

We heard about Boon-dockers Welcome while watching lots and lots of YouTube videos made by full timers.  I really liked the idea of "crashing" at places where we could meet people who are experienced RVers and have lots of experience and wisdom to share!  The membership costs $50/year, and there is typically no cost to stay unless the owner request a minimal amount to help cover hook ups you use.  The number of available places is amazing and finding and requesting a stay is supper easy.  Some hosts allow 1 day and others up to 5. Our first experience at a Boon-dockers site was wonderful.  Our hosts were gracious, sweet and very helpful, especially Gene who helped me back the trailer up his 60' driveway!  We explored a little bit around the area including a nice community park/trail to walk.  (Our main purpose in staying in the area was to visit family.) Joni Interesting side note regarding Boon-dockers welcome.  They review you as a guest ;)....

What RV or trailer to buy?

After spending a few years looking at different camper options both online and in person and going to multiple RV shows in the area, we finally decided that we would purchase a trailer rather than an RV.  We bought a truck that would be able to pull any size camper that we would consider buying.  We looked at travel trailers, 5th wheels and spent a day going through Airstreams.  At the end of the day we decided to go with a 5th wheel.  The question we asked ourselves is, are we going to be doing more traveling around or more living in the camper?  Definitely we will be doing both, but we went with the thought that we would be living in the trailer more than on the road.  While we want to travel around this great country a bit, our plan is to get somewhere and stay in the area for 10-14 days exploring the area with day trips.  So, we needed a trailer that is more conducive to living in than pulling down the road. The next question was which...

Someday Is Now

We've been talking about hitting the road for a very long time! (right kids?)  Finally it is time.  Our "Someday" has become "Now"! It was a slow start to our new life of nomading and adventure due to some unplanned circumstances, but we made it!   House is sold, our belongs are in the trailer, storage or given away and we are on the road.
