Nature's Getaway RV Park Schellsburg, PA (11/1-7/2021)
Arrived to this very quiet campground in Schellsburg PA. We are 1 of 4 campers set up for the week.
Schellsburg Pa, population 400. Small, which we like. Were not looking for much nightlife or things to do, mainly just hanging out at the campground. We went to a local Bison farm yesterday. Saw some Bison roaming the hills, went into the shop and talked to the owners daughter awhile. Nice lady, gave us a brief history of the business. Bought some Bison burgers and cooked on our gas stove last night. Yummy! Big, beefy, or should I say bisony and satisfying after a busy day outside.
Meet this dude named Brent. He is a couple spots over from us. With no one else here, its hard to avoid contact. We are not actively avoiding, just not real interested at the moment on making friends. He is from Michigan and drove down the same time and arrived at the same time. He had to drive around our truck a little while we were setting up.
Nice campground. Open, spacious and only a few campers here. Electric and water hookups. Dump stations, but not at campsite. We will dump when we leave. As a courtesy, the owners offer a complimentary tank suck once a week. Not really a big deal staying only a week. We wont fill our black tank that quickly. Two weeks? Maybe then.
It is November and the campground is under new management since March of 21. Meet the owners, they are slowly working improvements in the campground. They bought it from an older couple who had owned it awhile and let it fall into some disarray. This is probably a common occurrence. Buy a campground when your young-ish operate it for awhile until the work becomes to much, let the grounds slip a bit and finally sell it. I doubt there is much $ to be made owning a campground. You do it because you embrace the lifestyle. I think my wife and I embrace the lifestyle and understand the appeal to owning a campground.
Anyway. I started a fire yesterday and have kept it going a couple days now. So far it been cool during the day and cold at night. It has been dry tho, thats a big plus. No mud or water to deal with.Took my bike for a spin around the grounds this am, cold buy sunny and refreshing. Also took my bike to the Shawnee State park, located 1.5 mikes to the west of our campground. Biked about an hr, the hills kicked my butt. Our lab jazzy has been enjoying herself too. A big black walnut tree nearby gives her lots of things to chase. I had her sitting outside with me at the fire this am too.
