Noticing things at the campsite
We are camping for a week at Natures Getaway RV park, 147 sleepy hollow rd Schellsburg, PA. There are probably 100 sites available. There are 3 other campers that I can see in the park. Nice.
I am sitting outside at the picnic table with a small fire to my back, my lab Jazz sitting in the grass next to me watching things. I have a cup of good java next to my computer....live is good. Seriously. I have a local rock station playing some REO speedwagon at the moment. Roll with the changes. I think we are. Sounds great BTW. Did I mention the sun is shining too? It is, so lovely. Rather condusive for writing.
Its about 45 degrees now, about 11 am. Joni and I did a little yoga with Adrian this am. Streaming on YouTube. We have fine WiFi available at this campsite. A good start to the day. Well, actually the start of the day consisted of me making coffee, turning on the kitchen faucet and only getting a trickle of water. Opps. Its cold overnight, below freezing. Our hose from the source water to the camper froze. Live and learn. Fortunalty, we have an option to draw water from our RV tank. Just a quick switching of levers on our water interface, turn on the pump and wala. We are now drawing water from our tank and not from the source. Takeaways? Tonight, since its going to be cold again, below freezing, I should unhook the hose from the source and drain the water from it. Also, close the handle on the water source - so the water drains from the pipe and does not freeze. In the am, we can use the pump and internal water - we have tank heaters on the rig. Later, I can reconnect the water. These are the things you have to pay attention to while full timing in your rig. Its preferable to draw water from the source and not use the water pump to request water. I assume this. Why use the pump when water is available at a source? Don't. Use the water on demand from the source when available. Easier on the system, expect when it freezes overnight. Ill figure things out, develop a system of operation. Its what you do.
Earlier this am, I took my dog for a walk and stood next to a tree watching the leaves gently falling from it. Its very still, no wind to speak of. It was lovely. Jazz, our lab was wondering around the edge of the campsite in the wooded area and I just stood watching the leaves dropping from the tree. Symbolic of lots of things I suppose. Life and death. Birth and well, death. Once leave would fall and catch others on its way down. Gently, quietly falling from the tree to the earth. Theraputic. Stress from the frozen hose and water source falling away.
I also thought It would be interesting to listen to local radio in places that we camp. At our last site, there was very little radio to listen to. We were in a valley with poor reception, but not hear. I found a local rock station upon landing at the campsite. 107.5 in Bedform PA. Nice. They did a little diddy about local establishments and their lunch specials for the day. Nice. Maybe we will take them up on one. The burgers at a local joint sounded good, on lunch special.
We just lost power to our rig. We are plugged into a 30 amp source with a 50 amp rig, so I cant be too surprised. Its the second time in 3 days the circuit popped. I only have to hit the reset on the breaker and turn it back on. We are running the heat on the electric. We have a gas or electric heat option. I figure if we have electric, why use our propane? But, it may cause this type of problem on a 30 amp circuit. A leave just fell on my computer ;). Nice.
Did I mention our neighbor Brent has a 18 month old yellow lab named Ruby? They came over yesterday and visited a while. Our old girl jazz is 12. She was ok, her hair went up and she barked a little, but quickly made friends with Ruby. A broke a stick and played fetch with Ruby. Jazz likes to chase the black walnuts. Our site is next to a black walnut tree and its November, so lots on the ground for jazzy to chase. The breeze is picking up and I am getting plummeted with leaves. Its so nice.
Did I mention the weather forecast from the local rock station? Sunny and cool the next 4 days, which is the duration of our stay at this lovely little place. Sunny. Cool and sunny. Almost perfect. Highs around 50 each day and into the low 30s, high 20s at night.
I bought some firewood on the day we arrived, two bundles $12. Support the local business. In this case the campground owners. I have been supplementing with wood from around the campsite. Lots of woods around with lots of different sized wood to harvest. Im probably not supposed to do this, but hey, im a rebel, just ask my wife. Im not much of a rule follower and am opportunistic.
Our neighbor Brent just got back.
Jazzy is barking at him ;) Hush I say! Maybe he will get Ruby and bring her over for another visit.
The local rock station is paying "A Lea" from Donnie Iris. What a great tune. Love it. If you read this and like rock music, please look the song up on youtube or spotify and give it a listen. Now, free bird. What could be better. Outside at a picnic table in the sun with a egg and bacon sandwich, thanks honey! A cup of Joe, my dog by my side with a gentle breeze blowing leaves on me. Life is good at the campsite.
Bedford county. The radio station just did a 1 minute announcement recognizing veterans day. Distinguishing between memorial and veterans day. Mentioning that war is sometimes thrust upon us and our sons and daughters have never failed to answer the call in defending this great country of ours. Patriotic. I like that a lot. Honoring the military and their sacrifices. Bravo.
