What RV or trailer to buy?

After spending a few years looking at different camper options both online and in person and going to multiple RV shows in the area, we finally decided that we would purchase a trailer rather than an RV.  We bought a truck that would be able to pull any size camper that we would consider buying.  We looked at travel trailers, 5th wheels and spent a day going through Airstreams.  At the end of the day we decided to go with a 5th wheel.  The question we asked ourselves is, are we going to be doing more traveling around or more living in the camper?  Definitely we will be doing both, but we went with the thought that we would be living in the trailer more than on the road.  While we want to travel around this great country a bit, our plan is to get somewhere and stay in the area for 10-14 days exploring the area with day trips.  So, we needed a trailer that is more conducive to living in than pulling down the road.

The next question was which 5th wheel to buy?  There are so many options, but then I heard someone suggest that you determine the floor plan you would like and then find the trailer that fits that.  Ultimately we went with the Rockwood Ultra Lite 2881s.  It is 33' long, which is a bit longer than I wanted, but it had most of the things we wanted for living in.

Things we had on our want list:

  • comfortable space for relaxing which meant nice recliners
  • floor space for yoga, exercising and dancing :)
  • pantry space
  • extra sleeping options for guests (a bunk room would have been nice, but I definitely did not want to go longer than 33')
  • the ability to access the refrigerator w/out having to open the slide
  • large enough TV for our oldish eyes
  • counter and storage space

You have to decide what is important to you and then go find it!
